From Dilemma to Decision: Why we included the Companion Guide
During our brainstorming process while we were planning and writing the book, Here’s How to Deal: The Dance Dilemma, we were thinking, “How do we help teachers, mentors and parents discuss the events and issues in the story with their children?” We wanted to write a fun story that brought in the issues of today – like bullying and cyber bullying, honesty, empathy, belonging, and trust. We knew the events in the story would be worth discussing, so we decided we’d make a guide that presents critical thinking questions to readers. We designed the guide to support adults as they help their kids and students in navigating these issues. As psychologists, we wanted families and schools to have a strong tool to foster social-emotional learning skills like perspective taking, relationship building and decision making. We hope you enjoy the story and the critical discussions we planned in the Companion Guide!
